The next day, even though the President has no formal role in the amendment process, President Lincoln signed the Amendment before sending it along to the states for ratification. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of this powerful moment, we encourage you to sign a copy of the Thirteenth Amendment, just like President Lincoln did.
- <H3> Our Nation’s constitutional story didn’t end in Philadelphia in 1787. Following the Civil War, President Lincoln and his generation worked to create a “more perfect Union,” securing the passage of the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments. These Amendments ended slavery, promised equality for everyone, and expanded the right to vote.
